Last Posting Before the Wedding!

We thought we would post the info in the email we just sent - just in case...

Ferry
If you haven't done so already and are on a tight time schedule for Friday (or Saturday) - you may want to consider booking the ferry from Horseshoe Bay to Langdale - BC Ferries. If you make a ferry reservation, you MUST be at the ticket booth at least 30 min prior to departure, or you will lose your reservation. You can thank BC Ferries for that "customer-friendly" policy....

Friday BBQ
Everyone's invited! We've heard from most of you, but if you haven't gotten back to us to let us know you're planning on being there, it'd help if you could send us a quick note. The BBQ will start at 6pm on Friday at the West Coast Wilderness Lodge.

Skookumchuck Walk
One of the really neat things about the area is watching the max tide flow at the Skookumchuck rapids. This will happen around 10am on Saturday, and Geoff (currently) is planning to lead a walk to the site. It'll be a nice diversion for Geoff to have his first tour guide experience. Please make sure he doesn't run off into the woods. It's about a 45 min walk each way - on a nice wide path.

Sunday Breakfast
If you don't have to take off early, please join us for breakfast at the Lodge Sunday morning.

Strongwater Campground
Unfortunately we have recently found out that the Strongwater Campground closed, and I don't believe they've been informing people who had made a reservation. Sorry about the poor management... I think we've notified those who we knew were planning on staying there and have made other arrangements, however, if you have booked Strongwater (and haven't heard from us, or the campground itself for that matter), please let us know and we can help you find alternative lodging. The Bathgate Marina has rooms available and is closeby (in Egmont).

Looking forward to catching up!

How to Get to Egmont

So Geoff and I, being westcoasters, are used to planes, trains (ferries), and automobiles to get around our wonderful province. But some may not be so familiar with the local transportation, let alone understanding where the heck Egmont actually is.

West Coast Wilderness Lodge - Getting Here
The WCWL (Geoff and I, as energy industry employees, love acronyms, so get used to them...) has a great Getting Here page that provides pretty much all the info you need. Please have a look at their site, and also at our extra pointers below.

Flying into Vancouver
We're biased, but YVR is the best airport to fly into on a clear day. Now that the Canada Line skytrain runs from YVR downtown, it's super easy and cheap to get into the city. You can either rent a car in the city, or from one of the airport car rentals.

BC Ferries
They don't make it obvious which ferry you're supposed to take if you're going from Vancouver to the Sunshine Coast (it's actually the Horseshoe Bay - Langdale Route), so here's a link to the schedule. It's a 40 minute trip.

Since it is a long weekend, we recommend getting to the ferry terminal at least a few hours ahead, or you can reserve, for an extra $15 each way. Geoff and I be getting there the day before and will likely reserve for peace of mind. NOTE if you do reserve, you still need to be at the terminal at least 30 mins before the ferry departs or they cancel your reservation. I know this seems unjust, but it is what it is... If you have more questions about the ferry, please feel free to email me.

Gibsons to Egmont
The Gibsons - Egmont drive is beautiful, and I always think it takes less time than it actually does. There's a lot to see along the way (Beachcomber "relics" for one) along with gorgeous scenery and windy roads. To be safe I would give it 2 hours from Gibsons.

Car or no car?
Up to you! Malaspina Coach Lines provides a bus service from Vancouver, including the Airport, to Earl's Cove, which is about a 15 min drive from Egmont. This also includes the ferry. You would have to arrange for a pick-up from Earl's Cove (maybe from a generous cousin??) to the WCWL.

Float Plane!
Another option is to charter a float plane to/from the Lodge. It's a beautiful flight, very fast, and definitely a West Coast way to travel. Contact either Whistler Air or Harbour Air for more information.

We'll be following up with some postings of Things to Do in Egmont, but also along the Sunshine Coast. So become a follower!! Be the first to know when we post new info!!

Some More Details

A few details to keep in mind:

Friday Welcome BBQ
We know it's a long way to go to get to Egmont, and we realize that many of you may want to spend Friday night on the Sunshine Coast. So we're inviting everyone to a "Welcome Barbeque" Friday September 2nd at the Lodge, around 6pm. It will be a casual event, and the Lodge will be serving burgers (and a veggie option) and assorted other goodies. Kids are welcome.
If you'd like to join us for the BBQ, please let us know when you RSVP for the wedding itself, so we can be prepared!!

Kids
We've thought long and hard about inviting children to the ceremony and reception, and though we'd love to spend time with everybody's kids, we unfortunately can't accommodate the numbers that would be involved. So the ceremony and reception are adults-only, with the exception of nursing babies. (We're not tyrants!).

Gifts
We truly believe that the greatest gift is your presence at our wedding, but if you are looking for additional gift ideas, we are registered at The Bay

That's all for now - we will post more details over the coming weeks! See older posts for further info about places to stay.
